Yesterday, Matt gave a word about courage! We so desperately need more real courage... the kind that doesn't come from carrying a gun, but that comes because we have Jesus inside. David said that even if a whole army encamps against him, his heart would not be afraid! He was anointed king years before he ever got his throne and rule. Rejected by Israel, the very people he was supposed to be leading, he had to live in a different country with the Philistines. Despite this, he still snuck out at night to fight against Israel's enemies... to fight for God's people! And when the Philistines and David's own men rejected and wanted to kill him, David spent time with God and strengthened himself in the Lord. What courage! Matt said that to have courage, we need encouragement and to have real encouragement, we need to be with Jesus. It is so simple. And talk about courage, Jesus stood unafraid even when facing death!
We also called ourselves out at men and women of valor, like the angel of the Lord said to Gideon. Matt said that God is speaking that over us, calling us mighty men and women of war!
